Custom Play Fort for kids ages 2 to 12 in Carson, California

This wooden play structure is located in Veteran’s Village of Carson in California.

Installed in 2019, this playground climbing tower is part of the lush courtyard that sits at the center of this Thomas Safran & Associates housing development created particularly for U.S. veterans in need of affordable housing. Meant to bring residents together in a warm and uplifting outdoor space, the courtyard also features tables, chairs, grills, and plenty of greenery.

We created the Carson play structure with the 2 to 12 age range in mind. It is made up of a 12-foot tower with a gable roof that fits in visually with the surrounding development. To get to the deck (at a height of four feet), children can choose from steps that include an ADA-compliant transfer platform or the more challenging rope net climb that wobbles a bit with each step. Once on the deck, a kid’s imagination kicks in and it becomes a fortress, a castle, a spaceship, or anything else they can dream up. For a quick ride back down to the ground, an open slide stands at the ready.

On the ground level, a ship’s wheel is perfect for those who prefer to skip the heights and instead choose to captain the vessel to the land of pretend. Watch out for pirates and sea serpents!

Like all our structure, this sustainable playground is made of redwood lumber from well-managed forests and all-natural tung oil stain that we make ourselves. The result is a durable, eco-friendly structure that is both delightful to children and light on the environment.

This structure meets ASTM F1487 Standards for Public Use Playground Equipment and the 2010 Americans with Disabilities Act.
